To put UK Trichotillomania sufferers in touch with one another
The original impetus for creating this site came from the amazing experience of my first ever meeting with other sufferers. The main objective remains and will always remain the same: To provide an easily accessible means for UK Trich sufferers to find out about, contact and meet up with one another.

To spread awareness of Trichotillomania within the UK
Since this site has been running, awareness of the condition in the UK has improved, thanks especially to those of you who have been brave enough to appear on television and in magazine and newspaper articles. Every time there is any media interest in the condition there is always an influx of users to the site, many of whom are amazed that they are not completely alone in their hair pulling habits. There are still many sufferers out there who just don't have a clue how common this condition is. We need to continue to spread awareness both within the general public and within the medical profession. The more medical research that takes place the greater the chance we have of getting some answers to our problem.

To set up a charity for Trichotillomania in the UK
As some of you know, this has long been an aim but isn't as easy as it seems. But to set up a charity is still high on the agenda list. With charity status we could apply for grants and donations to help in spreading awareness, and inspiring and possibly funding research studies as well as campaigning for certain cosmetic hair treatments to be available on the NHS for scalp pullers.

To inspire, promote and support medical research into the condition
Many thanks to Dr Naomi Fineberg and Sam Chamberlain for their current interest and research studies into the condition. Dr Fineberg was quite surprised when Lynn, a patient of hers and user of this site, pointed out how many sufferers she knew about via the internet. The research currently being carried out is what we've been waiting for and I hope that many of you will consider volunteering as and when volunteers are called for. Up to date information will be posted on the 'Research' section of the message board.

To provide a portal to the wealth of information now available over the internet
Since this site was set up in 2001 there is so much more information out there, the information revolution being a wonderful thing that we should all make use of. So if you come across any great sites or pages that have not been linked to in the links section, do email me to let me know about them.

To create a directory of sympathetic hairdressers
I have been asked so many times via the message board and email if I know of any hairdressers sympathetic to Trichotillomania in a certain area. So I aim to continue my work on finding hairdressers for the directory which will cover all areas of the UK in county order. Every hairdresser listed will have been contacted by phone by either myself or another site member and only those who are genuinely sympathetic will be listed. I have been shocked by hearing just how many years some of you have been without a visit to a hairdresser and hope that this feature of the site will help.
